I thought you would be interested to know that the French King visited Henry VIII of England, and he was served amongst the other 800 dishes, a pudding that had sherry from Portugal, sugar (which used to be locked in boxes it was so valuable) almonds from the middle least and exotic fruits. He gasped and asked what the dish was called and Henry VIII said ‘it’s a mere trifle’ (in other words – this proof of England’s trade across the entire world) was as nothing!
Henry VIII also had a wonderful loin of beef one evening and in gratitude he grabbed his sword and Knighted it. So we call it Sirloin. (Sir Loin).
Henry ruled England from 22nd April 1509 until he died in 1547.
